More Waves Less Plastic

From Changing Tides Foundation

A little over 5 years ago, a group of five women, driven by their love and passion for the environment, decided it was time to step up for Mother Earth, and created Changing Tides Foundation. That group of women ignited a flame that set a fire in the hearts of individuals all over the globe. Now here we are, years later, running our largest Plastic Swear Jar Challenge to date. What started with just five women has now grown into a global community of people that are motivated and passionate about creating a better planet.

Change can start small but the ripple it makes can create huge waves. Our goal is to empower individual action so together, we can create collective change for our planet. That’s why we’re so excited to invite you to participate in our fifth annual Plastic Swear Challenge & new campaign - More Waves, Less Plastic.

More Waves, Less Plastic is bigger than just another Plastic Swear Jar Challenge. This campaign was created from the thought that we needed to go bigger. More Waves, Less Plastic will combine our annual Plastic Swear Jar Challenge with #PlasticFreeJuly. Throughout the month of July we will lead you in activations and activities to educate, highlight and eliminate plastic. Join our #PlasticSwearJarChallenge to receive weekly newsletters with helpful plastic-free tips, resources, facts & more.

The US generates more than 35 million tons of plastic but recycles just 8.3% of it.

Recycling is not the solution, we need to stop plastic at the source. As consumers, we must make it known that this is not how we want to live. We understand how hard it is to avoid plastic, we’re constantly surrounded by it. Togo containers, plastic packaging on products & food, plastic bottles and bags; the list goes on forever (kind of like the lifespan of plastic!) It can be overwhelming to think about how much plastic we use daily. This is why we value the Plastic Swear Jar Challenge so much. Being intentional with our usage and purchases and increasing our awareness is the first step. We then can work to reduce our single use plastics and find better, more sustainable alternatives. We can create change that is driven by consumer demand, we just need enough consumers to get on board.

We also know that avoiding plastic comes from a place of privilege. We know that not everyone has the time or accessibility to seek out plastic free foods and resources. We intend to use the opportunities that we have for positive change. Over the next month, we will provide you with resources you can use to make even a small change in this plastic-loving world.

At Changing Tides Foundation, we created the More Waves, Less Plastic campaign for many reasons. The deep connection we feel to Mother Earth cannot be compared to anything created my humans. To be surrounded by her glory, whether in her waves or on top of her mountains, makes us who we are. Mother Earth provides so many resources, natural beauty, and opportunities for recreation, but what do we do for her? We owe it to her to take responsibility for our actions and demand change to keep her safe.

One of our favorite parts of the Plastic Swear Jar Challenge is the opportunities to spread awareness that taking the challenge gives us. Bringing your own to-go container when you’re out to eat with friends sparks conversation. Refusing to buy produce wrapped in plastic and instead going to a local farmers market or bulk store creates connections with strangers through a shared appreciation for our planet. This challenge is so important to Changing Tides because we see how much reach just one person can have. We may make an impact on a whole community through empowering just one individual. By sharing positive stories, tips, solutions, and struggles, we can inspire more people than we even intended on.

Join us in standing up for the only home we have. Be the one to inspire your family, your friends, your neighbors, and that stranger at the grocery store. Together, we are a strong force that can create More Waves, & Less Plastic.
